Dubai Charity Association organized a training workshop for many of its staff members on the basics of sign language, in conjunction with the International Day of Sign Languages, which falls on September 23 each year. This initiative comes as part of the association’s commitment to enhancing the role of charitable and voluntary work, while raising its employees’ awareness of the importance of learning sign language, thereby equipping them with better skills to communicate with beneficiaries from the deaf community.

This workshop comes as part of the association’s Human Resources Department plan to promote a culture of tolerance and inclusion, as well as to develop and enhance the skills of its employees by training them on how to effectively interact and communicate with people of determination from the deaf community. It also aims to strengthen their ability to provide comprehensive humanitarian services that address the needs of all segments of society.

The workshop, which was attended by His Excellency Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, the association’s Executive Director, and delivered by two sign language experts—Ms. Fatima Al-Mannai and Ms. Somaya Ibrahim—covered the teaching of the alphabet, numbers, and some basic words and phrases used in daily communication. It also introduced participants to the etiquette of interacting with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

His Excellency Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, Executive Director of Dubai Charity Association, said: “At Dubai Charity, we believe that social solidarity begins with the ability to communicate with everyone. Organizing this workshop reaffirms our commitment to supporting people of determination and providing all means to ensure their genuine inclusion in society.

The Executive Director of Dubai Charity Association added: “This initiative reflects the association’s commitment to its social responsibility and comes as part of a series of programs through which Dubai Charity seeks to create an inclusive and supportive work environment. Our goal is to empower our employees to become ambassadors of understanding and inclusion, capable of building bridges of communication with the deaf community, ensuring that our services and assistance reach everyone in need without barriers. We will continue to organize such training programs to raise awareness and celebrate all segments of society without exception.
